How many treatments will I need?
Most patients require 5 to 10 treatments in order to achieve complete removal. Patients with older or more faded tattoos may only need 3 to 4 treatments. Because every patient and their tattoo is different, the number of treatments needed is unique to each patient. Our Florence clinic uses a variety of factors to assess your tattoo and best estimate the number of treatments you will need.

  • Age of tattoo
  • Size of tattoo
  • Location of tattoo
  • Tattoo ink colors
  • Depth of ink
  • Density of ink
  • Type of ink (professional vs. amateur)
  • Pre-existing scarring
  • Patient health

How long will it take to fully remove my tattoo?
Treatments are spaced a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks apart to allow your skin enough time to heal before receiving another session. Treating the skin too soon into the healing process can lead to unwanted side effects. That being said, every patient heals at different rates. Because laser tattoo removal requires multiple sessions, some patients may achieve complete removal after a couple months while others may take up to a year. The waiting time between treatments may fluctuate depending on how fast your skin heals.

How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

As part of our mission to improve individual lives, families and our community, we provide this service without charge to formerly incarcerated individuals, former gang members, and victims of human trafficking. Please contact us to see if you qualify for tattoo removal free of charge.

Is the laser painful?
Most patients compare the laser to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Other patients have said the laser feels similar to having a tattoo applied. Because everyone has a different pain threshold, every patient will react to the laser differently. Luckily, laser tattoo removal treatments are very quick and last anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo being treated.

Are there any side effects?
Laser tattoo removal is the safest method for removing unwanted ink from the skin. Our Duality laser is designed to specifically target and shatter ink without harming any of the surrounding skin tissue. The most common side effects are itchiness, redness, swelling, scabbing, and blistering. All of these side effects are temporary and heal over time. Patients are strongly advised to refrain from picking or popping any scabs or blisters that form. Doing so can lead to serious unwanted side effects and infection. Be sure to follow proper after-care instructions to ensure your skin heals flawlessly.
